How to use the differential lock under different road conditions?

author:admin date:2022-01-27 17:27:25 hits:

What should I do if the car slips when off-road? Of course, we can keep swinging the direction to increase the tire adhesion. You can also hang the forward and reverse gears repeatedly to get out of trouble by inertia. And some modified cars can also use a winch. These can help us out of trouble. But have you ever thought about if we can effectively stop one side of the wheel from slipping through a device. This way we might not have to push the cart in the mud or even climb rocks.

That's the air differential lock. A device that locks the differential case and the axle shaft together when one of the driving wheels slips, so that the differential loses its differential function and can transfer all the torque to the other side of the driving wheel.

1. Complex potholes (the geology is relatively hard, such as soil ditch, mixed rock and soil or sandy soil, gravel, v-ditch, etc.)

When you are here, you can open the lock first, and then open it when the car diagonally falls or one side loses power. But remember to look at the road first! Many elevated friends like the small hump. Once the position similar to the transfer case guard is supported, it will be too late to drive. The best way is to first estimate whether you can pass, remember the route, and find the passing angle. Because many times uphill (even small slopes) are driving on the ground and looking at the sky. When going uphill, don't drain the front wheel just before the top of the hill (this is the most common problem that leads to sinking). If you find that the uphill or the slope is uneven, especially if there are potholes and sand that can cause different adhesion of the left and right tires, open your lock in advance. Personal experience is that it is not very difficult to unlock the steering at slow off-road speed (5 steps). When playing on such terrain, be careful of culverts and rollovers! When climbing long steep slopes, you must carefully choose the route straight up and down, and try not to turn around on the slope.

Driving in V-grooves also requires the ability to lock the differential to prevent sideslip. Climbing at such a high angle requires the installation of a front differential lock

2. Pure mud, wading, rock climbing

In this case, the differential lock will be opened in advance before passing the target obstacle, and the appropriate route and speed will be selected to pass. Under normal circumstances, unlocking when the tire adhesion is low will not make you feel like a directional beater.

Such a quagmire has to rely on the differential lock to get through

3. Sand

This kind of terrain is relatively special, and it is better to deflate than to unlock! Both places have a common feature that they cannot stall. So optimistic about the route, do not unlock. The best way to get stuck in the sand is to dig and use a sand control board. In the soft sand of Wengniute in winter, it is easier to unlock the lock than to start in the sand without unlocking it, but it is very difficult.

Summarize:

1. Vehicles with front and rear hard axles are more suitable for traversing in extreme terrain due to the characteristics of suspension, axle and engine. Even climbing rocks and ravines, so locks are a must friend. Friends who like to climb can even not install a winch.

2. Many friends think that having a rear lock is enough. My experience is to install all of them. Because the terrain in the wild is complex and changeable, the car is suddenly dragged to the bottom when climbing a small dirt slope, and the rear lock is ineffective because the two rear wheels are hanging in the air, one front wheel is struggling in the pit, and the other front wheel is idling. I can only think that if there is a front lock, the problem can be solved easily.

3. The use opportunity of the rear lock is much larger than that of the front lock. I suggest (taking ARB as an example) the first lock to be opened after the master air pump switch is turned on is the rear lock. Finally, remember to close the locks before ending the slow-speed off-road and after ensuring that the car will not get stuck. For the sake of safety, the front and rear locks are independently closed first, and the main switch is turned off when you hear a "pop" sound.
